UK MODERN SLAVERY ACT TRANSPARENCY STATEMENT
This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes the slavery and human trafficking transparency statement for Green Cross United Kingdom for the financial year ending [e.g., 31 March 2024]. It outlines the steps we have taken to ensure modern slavery is not occurring within our own operations or in our supply chains.
Our Organisation’s Structure: Green Cross United Kingdom is a registered charity operating primarily within the United Kingdom. Our mission is [e.g., to address the interconnected challenges of environmental security, poverty alleviation, and humanitarian response]. We employ a small team and rely on a network of volunteers and partners.
Our Policies on Slavery and Human Trafficking: We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity. Our internal policies reflect this commitment and include:
Code of Conduct for Staff & Trustees: Requires adherence to ethical principles and compliance with all laws, including the Modern Slavery Act.
Whistleblowing Policy: Encourages the reporting of any concerns, including suspected modern slavery, without fear of retaliation.
Ethical Procurement Policy: Mandates the consideration of social and environmental factors in purchasing decisions and requires suppliers to adhere to our ethical standards.
Due Diligence Processes: As a non-profit with a relatively simple supply chain, our principal areas of risk are in sectors such as office supplies, IT equipment, clothing for fundraising events, and facilities management. Our due diligence includes:
Assessing potential suppliers before engagement.
Including anti-slavery clauses in new contracts with suppliers, requiring them to confirm compliance with the Modern Slavery Act.
Prioritising suppliers who demonstrate a clear commitment to ethical labour practices.
Risk Assessment and Management: We have conducted an initial risk assessment of our operations and supply chains. We consider our direct operational risk to be low due to our UK-based, salaried workforce. We identify the greatest risk as existing further down our supply chains, particularly for goods not sourced directly in the UK. We manage this by focusing due diligence on higher-spend, higher-risk categories.
Training: We raise awareness of modern slavery issues among our staff and trustees, ensuring relevant personnel involved in procurement understand the risks and signs of modern slavery.
Effectiveness & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): To measure effectiveness, we track:
Completion of modern slavery awareness guidance by relevant staff.
Proportion of new supplier contracts containing anti-slavery clauses.
Regular review of our procurement spend against risk categories.
Further Steps: In the coming year, Green Cross United Kingdom intends to:
Develop a more detailed supplier questionnaire for higher-risk engagements.
Provide more specific training for staff with procurement responsibilities.
Communicate this statement and our expectations to our key existing suppliers.
